Danny Kight may seem a strange choice to the uninitiated - because his performances on the field were shaky at times for the Rhein Fire during the 1998 season. Danny's induction is a testament to his popularity off the field, and his ability to mix with the fans. Whether it was going out for pizza the night before a game, or coming down to the Cambridge Bar after a game Danny was never far from the big parties during the 1998 NFLE season, Danny went to College at Augusta State, where he was better known for his soccer playing than football. He was a two-time all-Peach Belt Athletic Conference defender for the Augusta State soccer team, helping the team achieve a top 20 national ranking. After graduating though e tried to pursue a career as a place-kicker, playing semi-pro football for the Augusta Thrashers/Seminoles. During the 1995 season, he kicked a 63-yard field goal in one game and was named the MVP. Danny first tried to make the pro's when he attended the Chargers 1996 training camp, but he was released at the end of camp. His next attempt came with the Cowboys in 1997, who were looking to replace departed Chris Boniol. However another free against Richie Cunningham beat him out for the vacant job. |

The Redskins signed him at the end of the 1998 season, and decided to allocate him to the Rhein Fire for playing experience. Danny certainly started the season well, earning Special Teams Player of the Week award in Week1, when he booted 46 and 47 yard FG's, but struggled as the season wore on (and the Scottish fans bought him more drink!) But the season would end with World Bowl glory, when the Fire beat the Galaxy 34-10 in World Bowl 98. |

However a torn quadriceps in his kicking leg sustained in the World Bowl severely limited Danny when he returned to the Redskins training camp. This was especially disheartening when Blanton strained his groin in camp as well, and even more so when the Redskins went through 3 kickers in the first 4 weeks of the season. Hopefully Danny has fully recovered now, and will give the NFL one more shot in 1999, We hope you can make it Danny!
