PART V - CATCHING UP WITH DANNY THE COLT!

Sun 24 Oct

Indianapolis - Peyton's place!

There was some more great tailgating to be had in Indy as well. These Colts diehards helped out the freezing Cheddarheads with some great Chilli and beer, and boy were we thankful for that. It was just the tonic for another cold morning - however we more confident of survival on this day as the Colts play indoors at the RCA dome!

It seems that everywhere we go we encounter pipe bands (seen in the background here). Everywhere that is except Scotland!

We got inside for warm-ups and snuck down behind the Colts bench to shout out Danny Kight in his home debut. The look on his face when he saw us was priceless - his jaw nearly hit the Astroturf!

I don't think Danny could quite believe that the Cheddarhead clowns had come all this way to see him. Well to be honest - we hadn't! But as luck would have it he signed with the Colts a couple of weeks before and so our decision to go and see this mis-match against the Bungles was vindicated!

Believe it or not they fire up the crowd at the RCA Dome before kickoffs by playing clips from Braveheart! Now we know we had come to the right place!

And there would be many kickoffs on this day! The Colts found the endzone on their third play of the day when Marvelous Marvin Harrison found a 10 yard or so gap behind the Bungles defense and raced in for a 56 yard score. The score was 24-3 at halftime.

The big lead meant the Colts pass rushers go have a field day against rookie Akili Smith (seen here in the shotgun) and they did sacking him 5 times before he was forced to leave the game late in the 3rd quarter. He was probably relieved to get to the sideline as the Colts ran out 31-10 winners. The Colts look pretty darn good this year, but this game qualifies on the Toilet Bowl tour solely on the lackluster inept performance by the Bengals. They really do stink. In a bad unpleasant way. Serves them right for not sending any players to Europe this season!

From L to R: Preston, 2-0 Danny, Danny's daughter Nicole and Shuggie.

Danny said he'd been following the Fire in 99 and thought they were unlucky not to make the World Bowl. He wished everyone in Europe well, and thanked the league for the opportunity to play. "Given Galen Hall my best. Go Fire next year!"

After saying farewell to Danny and company we slumped into a Sports Bar for a couple of hours and watched the Packers demolish the Chargers, before embarking on the long ride to Pittsburgh. We got as far as Danville, OH (I hour outside Columbus) before crashing out for the night.
