CAMP WRAP PART I - OLD AND NEW FACES!

Camp moved to Tampa, FL after the last 2 years in Orlando. The Claymores were based at Leto High School in Hillsborough County which is North of the downtown area and about 10 mins drive from Raymond James Stadium. All the other teams were based at high schools, except the Admirals who had One Buc Place (training home of the Bucs) and the Galaxy who were at the University of Tampa. In an interesting twist Leto open their season in September against Plant High School who were home to the Rhein Fire. The rivalry continues!

Coach Gene Dahlquist. It was definitely weird not seeing Jim Criner around. Coach D ran a more relaxed camp than his predecessor. The grueling 2-a-days were gone by the first week, replaced with a 4 hour session in the morning, separated by a 15 minute break. The players really seem to respond to this and there was a pretty good vibe throughout camp.

New defensive coordinator Ray Woodard (far right) talks to the defense while returning D-line coach Jim Tomsula (left) looks on. Woodard was an ex-DL for the Broncos in the 80's and coached the Galaxy to a #1 ranking in the league in 1997. He looks to be a sound hire. Tomsula meanwhile may have been the best hire of them, as his presence helped lure back a trio of Dawgs in Dingle, Ward and Threats! Expect a lot of barking again in 2001!

Returning CB Central McCllelion whom has successfully battled back from a serious knee injury that knocked him out last year. We've got an interview coming up with 'Cent' later this week so please check back!

New QB Clint Stoerner gets some liquid refreshment. The Cowboy 3rd stringer eventually pulled ahead of Gus Ornstein to win the starting job.

Middle LB Keith Miller takes a knee. The temperature would hit the 80's by mid morning and there was no shade to be found.

Dante Hall (#1) lines up against Central McCllelion (#22). Dante, who we've seen play on Monday Night Football last year will be an exciting player to watch this year. He's making the move from RB to WR but look for the Claymores to get him the ball any which way they can.

Eventually you get tired of going up against your team mates day in day out and that's where the workouts and scrimmages come in!
