CAMP WRAP PART III - ROSTER OVERVIEW!

As you know by now the HOUNDS are back in town for 2001! Led by DT Antonio Dingle (#74) and DE Chris Ward (#99) we're all bound to be barking mad again at Hampden come April 21. Jabbar Threats also returns and the the trio will be joined by Otis Grant, Doug Miller and Robert Flickenger who last played in 1997 with the Claymores.

To the dismay of many, we've been given a bunch of Cowboys again! But thankfully, the Stoerner to James Whalen (#87) connection looks to be a blessing and will be much relied on in 2001. Whalen has had some stiff competition from Randy Palmer in camp who is another fine pass catcher. Stevan Fontana rounds out a good group of TE's.

Although Aaron Stecker is long gone, we have an excellent set of backs for 2001 led by Vaughn Sanders (#33). He shifts gears well, and catches the ball nicely out the backfield and will be a guy to watch. Don't discount camp standout Anthony Gray either. The other RB is Stephen Hutchinson who last played for the London Monarchs way back in 1995.

Keith Miller (#53) takes a knee during practice. He'll be at the center of the D all year making plays all over the field. Speedy Jamal Brooks is another guy to watch too who will be everywhere. London Dunlap on the outside may get to join in the sackfest with the hounds. Casey Tindale looks like a solid player too. Rounding out the LB's are Tony Ortiz, Brennan Swanson and Japanese Shingo Tinsdale. There may be a shift towards using the 3-4 more this season, with Dunlap lining up as a rush end.

Third string QB Lionel Hayes sits on the bench. Hopefully he stays there as Clint Stoerner looks to be the man! Gus Ornstein will be the #2.

Our man Central McCllelion (#22) will be the veteran of the secondary. It looks to be a bunch with good potential, and should improve once Eric Whitfield settles down at safety after playing most of camp at CB. The other starter will be either Renard Cox or Brian Gray while providing back-up will be nationals Rowelle Blenman (who had a great camp) and Kohei Satomi (with the Admirals last year). At safety Reggie Hunt stood out in camp and will form a good partnership with Whitfield with Pedro Cirino also in the mix.

At wideout Dante Hall (#1) should provide plenty of thrills this year. He has all the moves! He returned kicks in the NFL last year for the Chiefs (in fact the Cheddarheads have already got him on Sky Sports - one of his kick returns was used in our Cheddarlenium TV special) all will do some again in Scotland. Also looking good were Lonny Mitchell, Gerald Williams, Joe Perez and some old geezer called Scott Couper. National Jason Byworth will be there to give Scoops a breather. Expect the ball to be spread around in the passing offense this year.

Big Jim Stull (#77) is one the 4 tackles on the roster, but Craig Robeen and Damon Nivens may the starters on the right and left respectively. The starting guards are likely to be Eric King on the right side and Kendall Mack on the left. Jay Humphrey will be the starting center. Chris Watton and John Jacobs will provide depth along the line.

Rob Hart (#8) does some TV for the STV crew (Martin G hidden and Gordon behind the lens - sadly the STV show looks to be a no-go as of now). Rob will be the kicker again in 2001. There isn't a nicer guy on the roster and everybody will be rooting for him to put last year's World Bowl disappointment far far behind. Chad Holleman will take long FG's and kickoff while Brad Costello who has kicked in the NFL and showed why during camp, will be the punter.

And that just leaves … who didn't make it. Year 2000 compliant Marcus Ray (#29) never re-captured his form in camp and ended up being cut. Meanwhile Robert Grant (#11) didn't have a good camp either, and with all the kicking roles filled there was no place for him on the 2001 roster. It's sad to see these guys go but football is a tough game …

Check back tomorrow as we go round the league and check out the other talent!
