CHEDDAR CAM RECAPS THE WEEKEND |
Another home game, amother bus ride, another chance for Ian to break out the schnapps! Nothing like a picture of big smiling cherry to get you going in the morning! |
It's Livingston baby! |
Shuggie comforts the Moore Man in the backfields. Graeme is STILL without a TV show to produce after those clowns at STV canned "Touchdown Scotland" this year. Combine this with the fact the Claymores are on course to set a franchise record for ticket sales and you can what total utter BS this decision was! |
Shuggie heckles Front Office from a safe distance. Combine this with his heckling of some members of the medical profession, and there is growing sentiment to send someone to the Bank of Scotland and shout "ACCOUNTANT!" at him all day ... |
We snuck into this press conference with John Beake and Jim Connelly (the new MD of the league) before the game. Lots of chat about expansion, player allocation, WB X ... Promising stuff. We think John probably ruined his credibility though by waving to us when we walked in though! |
Nick Halling looks at the photos from Berlin that detail the debauchery that he got up to (see last week)! Say, doesn't that guy standing behind Nick remind anyone of Robert Griffith??? It can only be one man - Cheddar Hall of Famer D.J. Johnson - back in Scotland again! |
Lonny Mitchell (#19) leads the team onto the field. Lonny finally got to make his debut after his injury on the eve of the 1st game of the season. Clint looked for him often early on, narrowly missing a TD - but got away from him in the 2nd half so he only finished with 1 catch for 7 yards. |
Shuggie stands for Flower of Scotland in the stats booth where he can be found on home game days. Congrats to the clown for making his 50th straight Claymore game! The last one he missed was in Barcelona in 1996. Heck, the Tories were still in power back then it was so long ago! |
Clint lets one fly. After coming out firing and looking sharp early, more red zone troubles seemed to frustrate #14 - and he had an up and down game. He his inability to find a wide open James Whalen in the 4th quarter for what would have been a go ahead score would prove costly ... |
Vaughn Sanders was held to just 11 yards on 10 carries - mainly because most of the time he took a handoff somebody was immediately there to take him down. #33 has had a disappointing season, but we're convinced he's still got a big play in him! |
The league's leading passer Jarious Jackson was made to struggle too! He hit only 5 of 16 passes and was sacked 3 times. Big credit goes to our much-maligned secondary that only gave up 104 gross passing yards - 54 of which came on one broken play. |
Bryan Gilmore goes in for a 12 yard TD over the middle to give the Dragons their 1st points of the day. The pass was fired by back-up QB Roderick Robinson who usually plays the 2nd quarter - and his insertion into the line-up really gave the Dragons a boost. DRAGONS 7-3 |
With the Dragons mis-firing through the air it was up to League MVP to be, Mike Green to pick up the slack with 136 yards and 1TD. In 8 games Green has already got 919 yards, and trails Lawrence Phillips's record by only 102 yards now. Green's 9 yard TD in the 2nd extended the lead. DRAGONS 14-3 |
Rob Hart boots his 2nd FG just before halftime to close the gap. By game's end Rob would have scored the last 22 points for the team as the TD drought has reached 118 minutes! DRAGONS 14-6 |
This was about as much of the ball that the dangerous WR Tony Simmons saw for the Dragons. He was held to just 16 yards on 3 yards by our standout secondary. |
And a lot of the credit goes to Central who had by far his best game of the season! His key fumble recovery in the 4th quarter with the score 14-9 (seen here celebrating it) stopped an ominous Dragons drive and gave the Claymores hope! But a promising drive was stopped on 4th down ... |
Chris Ward envelops Jackson to help stop another drive and give the Claymores one final chance. Chris got another sack to add to his season total of 6.5. He's the franchise leader in takedowns with 12. |
But the ensuing punt would prove fatal for the Claymores. With only a minute remaining, and no time outs, Eric Whitfield tried to make a clever play by unexpectedly picking up the ball. Only problem was that several Dragons were waiting to bear down on him! The ball popped out and the Dragons got the Gatorade ready ... |
And there it goes! Defensive coordinator Red Kelin gets an early shower. Congratulations to the Dragons for being the 1st team to clinch a WB berth. They've clearly been the team of the league so far and deserve their 7-1 record. Who will they play in 2 weeks though? |
Despite Eric's gaffe - he showed what a stand up guy he is by coming over to the fans at the end and explaining himself. It was an incredibly honest gesture and earned him respect from these quarters. But no more punt returns please #36!!! |
James Whalen hangs his head at game's end - but he has nothing to be ashamed of, playing his guts out once again. 8 catches, 115 yards. Plus what should have been the game winning TD if Clint had better aim. James has a league leading 54 grabs now - only 4 short of the TE record of 58 set by Byron Chamberlain in 1996. |
Gus says " Give me 2 starts, and I will deliver!" It's definitely time that we got some Cooking with Gus!!! Sounds like just the recipe to beat the Catalan Curse once and for all! |
