WORLD BOWL XI - PART I (THURSDAY)

Preston and Shuggie are unavailable this week, so the task of retelling the World Bowl story has been handed over to a new friend ...

Greetings and Bwaaaaark Bwark Bwark Bwark! My name is GRABER. I am a chicken. Some people like to call me the Galaxy chicken but I prefer just Graber. I will now in own words retell the story of World Bowl XI!

Before we talk about the big game I thought I should salute my beak to those heroic Scottish Claymores of 2003.

You see if my favourite team hadn't had its feathers ruffled in Week 10 by a strong Berlin team, they would have played Scotland in the World Bowl.

Instead I sat at home in my coop in Week 10 and watched Mike Malan (top and middle) and Edell Shepherd (bottom) score 2 TD's each as the Claymores beat Amsterdam 31-13 to finish the season 6-4.

Thank God for tiebreakers - that offense scared me! Unlike the Rhein Fire's who we played instead. Bwaaark bwark bwark!

The World Bowl parties started on the Wednesday in Edinburgh and I was not a happy chicken as no-one invited me! But Preston sent me some photos ...

It looks like the fans enjoyed wearing the wrong shirts ...

The wrong hats ...

More wrong hats? Well only if you are a Fire fan - bwaaark bwark bwark bwark!

And making fools of themselves!

So a good night was had by all as the Pl@net tour left for the Highlands the next day while I waited for Preston to come pick me up from home - Kirkcaldy!

So Preston and the FTP decided to take me on my first official World Bowl event - a trip to the Falkirk Wheel! Chickens can't swim so I was more than happy to watch the boats get lifted between canals from a distance!

After the excitement at Falkirk, we drove through to Glasgow. Now that's a big bustling city so I was very glad that Preston helped me across the road on many occasions.

I don't understand why people are always telling jokes about this. Sometimes we just have to cross the road OK????

Then Preston took me to meet some of my football heroes - Jeff Nicholson and Craig Nall. Craig was the All-NFLE QB this year - and I'm sure happy my Galaxy won't see him in the final!

Scott Couper declined to be in this picture - but I believe those persistent girlies got a great shot of me and #81 - check out their site!

After all that excitement I was feeling quite flat, so Dom kindly offered to give serious mouth to mouth! I was a little nervous because my great grandfather once had his head bit off a rock star. But she was very gentle and it really put some fur on my feathers!

With that I was ready to go and strut my stuff on the dance floor ! It was time for the next party - this time a Merchant City in Glasgow. I should have invited all my buddies from the coop over as not many fans turned up. But I still had a great night! Bwaaark bwark bwark!

In the Merchant City it's always important to remember which are the good (drinking) cobbles and the bad (non-drinking) cobbles. Failure to do so and you're ordered to sit down! Even my buddy the Dragons mascot was forced to sit when he stepped on the wrong cobbles!

Shuggie asked me to say thanks to everybody that signed his photo album by the way. Preston had put together a bunch of dodgy pictures of him with other fans and had been collecting signatures all weekend!

My favourite singer Karl came on stage and did some great tunes. Thankfully he didn't play that one about waving chickens in the air - but he did do a revamped World Bowl XI song. Plus he name checked me a couple of times!

I had a great night with the ladies. Here FTP Bron is giving me a tender peck on the beak. My wings were-a-flapping let me tell you! BWAARK BWARK BWARK BWARK!

And so when it was time for a Eurovision contest between the Netherlands (Triple A's Erica and Ilse) and the UK (FTP's Dom and Bron) my feathers were definitely with the girls I'd been necking earlier in the evening.

However Triple A's "Like A Virgin" just edged out FTP's "It's Raining Men" despite my squawking. I think it was a fix!

Then the evening went a little hazy for me. First off, Clyde 1's Gavin Pearson decided to give me a kicking for no good reason! (I'm the blur by his foot in the picture). Then people started standing on me!!! I was very upset and decided I wanted to cluck off home ...!

But I hung around for a while, and they eventually tied me to some balloons which made my walk home to the hotel a bit easier. Bron and Preston had acquired the leftover balloons from the party for the bus on Saturday, That's Dom keeping guard over them back at the hotel bar.
Just as I was thinking I might pull again (or more likely get pulled), Preston joined me in the elevator with the girls and about 50 balloons. It took awhile but the lift finally emerged on the right floor! And with that it was off to bed. BWAARK BWARK BWARK BWARK!
