FLORIDA 2003 - TRAINING CAMP (PART I) |
First problem with camp 2003. We're in New Orleans for the last week of camp which is in Tampa 700 miles away! |
But how can you leave the Crescent City when it's St. Patrick's Day? You can't! This #1 party town never has a dull moment and this place never knows how to have a bad time. Parades and floats through the French Quarter are almost a nightly occurrence. |
It sure seemed that all the folks tossing beads on St. Paddy's night were the same as the Italian American night 2 nights before! |

We've been to New Orleans before in 2001, and although there was no football this time it gave us a chance to enjoy another hobby - eating! By taking a cookery class at the Cookin' Cajun Cooking School we were able to pick up a few tips! |
The Superdome was playing host to the SEC basketball tournament while we were here. Kentucky were triumphant, and locked up a #1 seed for the NCAA tourney. This is what they call March Madness - and for three weeks in March every year the US goes college hoops nuts! |
We did make one Saints related visit by stopping by the Saints Hall of Fame in Rivertown. Only 2 teams in the NFL have their own Hall of Fame (the other is in Green Bay which we've done also). You may think "Saints" and "Hall of Fame" don't go together but this is well worth a stop! |
Also worth a stop in rural Louisiana is the Tabasco Sauce Factory in Avery Island. |
Heading east from Cajun Country takes you into Mississippi and where better to stop in that state than Kiln, Mississippi- home of Brett Favre! This is picture of downtown Kiln. It's basically a 1 stoplight town, with every other street named Favre something. We still got lost and had to ask the sheriff for directions for the way out! |

After Mississippi, you hit Alabama for about an hour and then you're into Florida and the lesser known "Panhandle". This part of FLA has some of USA's top beaches which are distinct because they are literally snow white! |
It's a long drive along the panhandle following the Gulf of Mexico round. This is not snow. This is the beach! Eventually after about 1000 miles on the clock (because of detours) we rolled into Tampa ... |
