WEEK 8 2003 - CLAYMORES 31 ADMIRALS 20

Slightly different slant this week. We've decided to use last week's tale of glory and woe to illustrate to the casual fan, the do's and do not's of life on the road ...

ALWAYS try to go to the city where the game is played!

Game was Saturday in Amsterdam but we went to Dusseldorf on Friday ...

ALWAYS eat pig while in Germany.

But multiple portions not recommended ...

NEVER go to Dusseldorf and expect not to get a sore head for some part of the weekend.

ALWAYS travel from Dusseldorf to Amsterdam by ambulance.

Why not! Big thanks to Christof for providing our mode of transport.

ALWAYS make sure your ambulance is equipped with medical supplies.

ALWAYS observe Netherlands speed limits.

NEVER end up underneath the playing field!

En route to our parking spot we accidentally drove right through / under the stadium ...

ALWAYS find the bar that sells Schlosser Alt.

The International Hotel had an "out of town" special all weekend!

ALWAYS buy a hard working barman a drink.

Thanks George for pulling the pints and to Ross and AAA for setting things up..

NEVER look this wasted when it's still 4 hours to kickoff!

ALWAYS smile when your picture is being taken.

Nice to see you again Suzy!

NEVER look this wasted when it's still 3 hours to kickoff!

NEVER ask a Fire fan about last weeks shutout!

Sorry Sausage!

ALWAYS make sure a doctor (preferably 'The Doctor') is nearby.

Get well soon Stuart Hare

ALWAYS be civil to the referees.

Well pre-game anyway!

NEVER try to add to your sack totals by sacking your own QB pre-game.

ALWAYS use your best QB for 4 quarters!

Gene gives Nall the pre-game news ...

NEVER light your "Amsterdam doobie" inside a large inflatable helmet

ALWAYS remember to tackle on your first defensive series.

Dyshod Carter gets stuck into Tellis Redmon. The Admirals would eventually punt ...

ALWAYS remember to use your fullback on your first offensive series.

Mike Malan rumbles for 10 yards and a 1st down but the best was yet to come ...

ALWAYS score on your first drive.

Nall scans the whole field before finding Malan over the middle who breaks a tackle and rumbles in from 34 yards out!

CLAYMORES 7-0

ALWAYS celebrate a touchdown by punching the air away from your head.

LEFT: Toni D shows correct form with a good clean punch

RIGHT: Kenny F comes to the rescue after Shuggie fails to follow this simple rule and self punches his cheddarhead into the moat below. CLOWN!

ALWAYS time your blocks.

After an Admirals punt, WR John Minardi cleans out the CB (albeit maybe a wee bit early) and fellow WR Edell Shepherd takes the screen pass 30 yards to the Admirals 1 yard line.

ALWAYS give the ball to #24 when you're near the goal line.

Kenny sweeps right for his league leading 9th TD. His 7 rushing TD's tie the single season record for the Claymores held jointly by Aaron Stecker and Jesse Haynes.

CLAYMORES 14-0

NEVER wear lime green.

Just kidding Roy and AAA! The Mad Hatter here demonstrates great air punching form, keeping both fists well away from his oversized headgear.

NEVER touch a cheerleader without asking first.

The duck did have something to celebrate on the Admirals next drive when Joe O'Donnell connected from 39 yards out to put the home team on the board.

CLAYMORES 14-3

ALWAYS give a team mate a helping hand.

Mike Malan jumps up and grabs his 2nd TD - this time a 3 yarder from Nall to give the Claymores their 3rd TD in 3 possessions

CLAYMORES 21-3

NEVER give up trying.

Finally Shuggie produces an air punch of acceptable quality.

NEVER have the duck signal touchdown.

Here Justin Skaggs catches a 12 yard TD from Shaun Hill to cap an effortless 5 play 64 yard drive in 45 seconds.

CLAYMORES 21-10

ALWAYS support your Claymore stalwarts.

After marching quickly down the field in the last minute of the 1st half, Rob Hart slots a 27 yard FG with 7 seconds left. It's great to see Rob bouncing back these past 2 weeks.

CLAYMORES 24-10

ALWAYS keep your banners free of abuse towards the officials.

Well #133 wasn't here!

NEVER snap the ball at the holder when he isn't looking.

Poor Shane Stafford never saw it coming and a chance to extend the Claymores lead vanished. Another 3rd miscue - this time a Minardi fumble in the red zone was canceled out by Deveron Harper interception at the Admirals 1 yard line.

NEVER think its over.

TE Ryan Collins catches a 1 yard lob from Shaun Hill to close the gap with over 11 minutes left. Visions of Frankfurt were flooding back when the offense quickly went 3 and out and the Admirals went on the march again. But the D stiffened on 3rd and goal and the Ads had to settle for a Silvio Diliberto 26 yard FG

CLAYMORES 24-20

ALWAYS go for the win.

With the Admirals D keying on Simonton on 2nd and goal from the Amsterdam 5, Nall faked a handoff to Simonton to the left and bootlegged right where he lofted a perfect pass in the arms of TE Rod Trafford for the game clinching TD. Trafford had a breakout game with 5 grabs for 65 yards, including 3 clutch ones on the final drive.

CLAYMORES 31-20 (FINAL)

ALWAYS celebrate a road win!

Believe it or not we are now 3-3 all-time in the ArenA , which seems hard to fathom given some of the dire performances here. A great number of Claymores were witness to this - not far short of 100.

ALWAYS appreciate defensive improvement.

Defense has certainly looked a better outfit the last couple of weeks.

ALWAYS keeps the faith.

Thanks to Dyshod's pick, Craig Nall knows 2 more wins might just do it for us - but we will need a little help along the way ...

ALWAYS lean on your offensive line.

Don Eck's O-line were the key to our best offensive performance ever in the Arena A balanced 455 yards, and only 2 sacks. Plus little of the miscommunication and noise problems of years past...

ALWAYS commiserate with the other fans.

Starting to feel sorry for these guys. They are on the brink of their 5 consecutive losing season (which would tie the Monarchs record) and haven't been to a World Bowl in 8 years. Ouch!
