WEEK
4 - CLAYMORES 31 DRAGONS 21
Saturday night in the Cambridge was rocking again, as we welcomed our Dragon friends from Sitges for their first visit to Scotland. In the foreground here are John (left) and Montse (far right) the leaders of Penya Sitges Sack who organized the whole trip - which turned out to be a great success (except for the game-day result of course). Anybody who knows the satanic demon by the bar please let us know ... |
The Dragons front office turned up as last year, led by the enigmatic Miguel Matas who is the club president and part owner of the team. Miguel was kind enough to serve us champagne last year when we completed the unique NFL Europe Triple Cheddar Header. So this round was on us! |
Go Chiefs! The best guest of the weekend of course was "Mailing List Mary", who had traveled all the way from the USA (via London) to come party in Edinburgh! She was an instant hit, and helped hear KC allocated RB Jesse Haynes to a great performance. We hope to see her soon - maybe in Germany next week! |
Mary was a popular young lass all weekend! Here Kenny Stats takes time-out from his weekly "Full Monty" to slow dance with her! |
This was one hot night! Look at the sweat dripping off Fraser (far right). The beanie was dripping with it by 2am! |
Game Day Sunday! It started pissing down early, but cleared up in time for the Backfields Party. Above - Montse and Sitges Sack meet The Fun Bunch! |
Hey wake up Ross! His 7th game in 4 weeks already looks to be taking its toll! But at least he didn't lose his bag this week! |
Before the game George Coghill was honoured by being inducted into the Claymores Hall of Fame. It turned out to be a busy day for George, as later in the day we got a chance to properly induct him into our Cheddarhead Hall of Fame (see part II). |
Would you believe this is the fiercest linebacker in the NFL? Pittsburgh Steeler Levon Kirland gets cheddared! |
Nick Halling and Levon Kirkland (Nick is on the left by the way) - the toughest commentary duo on TV! Nick: "Me and Levon - we can beat the crap out of anybody!" Levon: "It's mostly me he's talking about, cos Nick's not really a fighter so he's always bringing me along!" Nick: "I'm a talker!" Levon: "He's going to get me beat up one day I think!" Thankfully the boys didn't go looking for trouble and were able to call the game! |
And what a game we had! Claymores 31 Dragons 21! CHEDDAR WEEK 3 AWARDS MVP - RB Jesse Haynes. The running game finally got untracked and Jesse was one of the main reasons, with 70+ yards and 2TD's. I Wish I Was 6'5" - Poor CB Joey Eloms. He had pretty decent coverage on WR Brian Finneran twice, but twice the 6'5" Barca wideout out-jumped Joey for TD's. Joey also was an inch or two away from knocking away the halfback option pass that Lawrence Phillips lobbed for a TD. More days like this and it will be See You Joey! Kudos to the D - After last weeks dismal show - the D-line cam up big in the 2nd half, helping "hold" Lawrence Phillips to 95 yards, his first sub 100 yard game in NFL Europe. Safety First - After the poor show last week, both S Steve Rosga and S Tony Watkins came up big with 4th Quarter INT's of Todd Bouman to preserve the lead. Best Timeout Dance - QB Dameyune Craig grooves along to "Space Jam" while coach Criner tells him the play during the 4th quarter. |

A great win that leaves us 3 and 1 baby! |
