WEEK
6 - CLAYMORES 42 GALAXY 35
Friday (21/5/99) - The city of Frankfurt! This is a first for us, because usually when we come all we see are the airport, Waldparkplatz and Waldstadion! We spent Friday night in Sachsen Hausen, admiring wiggling butts is a Cuban bar, before we hook up with Andy Colvin, Ben Saunders, Steve Livingstone and others. Andy's capacity for the Apfelwein is to an Olympic standard! |
Satruday (22/5/99) and Game Day! We hook up with Mark and Gill who have also been out in Germany all week. Here the Galactic Worms have just arrived! |
Which means break out the BBQ's! You can almost smell that food from here. The Fun Bunch (Paul, Mark and Ian) are also pictured above. |
Here we run into our "Feel the Spirit" boys - who were still to get changed into their great outfits! |
Into the Waldstadion we go! The smiles on the boys indicate that we've just smuggled in a dozen or so bottles of Feigling in out sporrans! |
Once inside we meet many old friends. Then another camera goes walkabout (to be found later - but an absence of pictures is noted here). We meet up with Christiane and Stefan at the Fan Tent. Christiane (a woman of impeccable taste) had asked us to bring out a Cheddarhead as a birthday gift for the husband of her cousin, and naturally he was delighted! Cheddarheads united!!!! The rest of the way, it's the usual mix of apfelwein and drunken girls trying to get under your kilts (some not even asking for permission). There's also the traditional flash on stage to be done! |
Nothing like all day drinking is there! Pictured on the right here is Dirk, who we'll see next week as the lone Berlin fan in Scotland! |
Inside the stadium now, and the place is rocking as always! There's no atmosphere like Frankfurt! |
Scoops acknowledges the Scottish fans! |
Jamal Anderson performs the coin toss. The Galaxy #32 shirt he was wearing did not impress us! No dirty birds today Jamal! |
After Frankfurt score on their first drive, we march right back down the field, scoring a TD here on Donald Sellers 6 yard catch. It wouldn't be his last! |
Fire Brother Uwe had turned up to cheer for the Claymores! (Why wasn't he in Amsterdam though?). Preston spots another blown coverage! |
There was much singing and dancing to be done in this game! I pity poor Rene (wearing #99 here). He turned up last week to cheer for us and our offense lays a goose egg. Then the following week, we go and set a yardage record clocking up 42 points along the way! |
CHEDDAR WEEK 6 AWARDS MVP - Craig and Sellers. Craig passes for a record 611 yards and 5 TD's. That's SIX HUNDRED AND ELEVEN YARDS! Unbelievable! Word has it that Clarky was getting so excited on the sideline that he though Craig has passed for 1000 yards! When we went down the front with the score 42-28, Craig saw us cheering and gave us the "Cut Throat" signal - meaning he figured it was all over. It wasn't! Sellers was the main man all evening catching 9 balls for a record 264 yards and 3 TD's. Unbelievable! Thank you Joey - CB Joey Eloms. Despite the record yardage, it still took a last second INT from Joey to seal a 42-35 win. Missing in Action - P Chris Dolan - only one punt. We can't remember it! Good to Have Yer Back - TE Shon Bell with 5 grabs for 96 yards and 1 TD See You Next Year - LB Emmett Waldron dislocates his knee-cap to put a damper on celebrations |
Joey "Bad Girl" Eloms still holding on that game saving ball! |
Joint MVP Don Sellers |
Sir Dameyune! What else can you say? |
After the game, we cheered the players back on the bus and then went out for small drinks to celebrate in Sachsen Hausen, which meant more Andy Colvin and more Apfelwein! |
Sunday (23/5/99) - Back to Dusseldorf airport AGAIN! This time, nothing was stolen or broken and we fly home safely, with an eventful road trip under our belts! |
